Fleet
Maintenance Facility
The
National Defence Headquarters approved a Base Development Plan
for Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt. The project initiative
is know as Fleet Maintenance Facility (FMF) Cape Breton Shop Consolidation
Program.

The FMF Cape Breton Shop Consolidation Project is a $91.8 million
investment in Canada's West Coast Navy and was designed to rearrange
the industrial buildings and upgrade the site to create the most
efficient Ship Repair Zone possible. Vancouver Island Poweline
was contracted to re-route the underground distribution system
through the center of the dockyard. Over 10 kilometers of high
voltage cable were installed, in a span of 16 weeks. The project
was completed allowing the deconstruction and excavation for
the new FMF Cape Breton Shop.
